Winner, winner, for drinks & dinner

This luxurious venue is a £1.5m restaurant and nightclub venue by property developers The Malhotra Group, has opened on Grey Street, Newcastle, in the historic heart of the city.

The project is very personal one to Operations Director Atul Malhotra, who named it after his two-year-old daughter Leila Lily. Following three years of meticulous planning, Atul was involved in every detail of the new venue, where the crockery, artwork and even the wallpaper has been personally designed for the project. The personal touch continues with the use of high-quality, bespoke furniture, with the project’s interior designers BXB Interiors specifying bespoke furniture from Andy Thornton Ltd. Atul Malhotra, was understandably delighted at winning the National Pub and Bar Award. A post on Leila Lily's Facebook page declared: \"We are absolutely delighted to announce that we have been awarded North East bar of the year 2021.\"

Thanking customers and staff, it praised their support and hard work, adding: \"Most importantly our special little girl, Miss Leila Lily who inspired our gorgeous venue.\"

Leila Lily's shortlisted rivals were Granny Annie's Pub and Pantry in Sunderland and The Craster Arms in Northumberland which we also had the pleasure of supplying furniture to. You can read about The Craster Arms interiors here.

Yet another trophy for the cabinet

The venue has already picked up an AA rosette for culinary excellence, a mere six months after it opened. It's also been the recipient of a FESPA design award for printed excellence. This was given to designer Beth Travers of Bobo 1325 in the Functional Printing category for her botanical wallpaper and fabric designs in the venue.

Beth used hand-drawn sketches and CAD / CAM, to create unique designs alongside a colour coordinated collection of custom-printed fire resistant interior furnishings to client specification. All textiles and wallcoverings comply with contract interior specifications. The textiles were manufactured using the dye-sublimation print process while the wallcoverings were created using digital print technology.
