Designing the Ultimate Outdoor Period Living Space

As specialists in heritage metalwork we were brought in to design, build, and install a custom Victorian Glass Veranda for a beautiful traditional, period stone farmhouse. The main goal was to stretch the living space outside with a full-width glass roof canopy across the back of the house, giving the owners reliable shelter from the elements without blocking their beautiful garden views. The structure was custom-made to create a smooth, natural flow between the house and the garden, resulting in a bright, comfortable space perfect for outdoor dining, hosting friends, or just relaxing, no matter what the unpredictable British weather may bring.

Project Scope & Layout

This bespoke veranda design was built to fit the exact lines and layout of the property, spanning the entire rear elevation to maximise the covered space. We installed a toughened glass roof system designed to handle bad weather while allowing natural sunlight to pour into the home. To finish the installation cleanly, we crafted custom, bespoke side returns that ensure a flush, seamless look where the metalwork meets the original stone walls.

Traditional Character & Period Details

To make sure this period property veranda felt like a natural extension of the original stone farmhouse, we focused heavily on authentic heritage styling. The decorative steel frame was manufactured to complement the heavy texture of the stone masonry, while ornate cast aluminium Victorian spandrels gave the canopy an authentic historic look. We completed the traditional aesthetic with fluted columns featuring matching decorative capitals and pedestals, ensuring every single piece of metalwork was custom-fabricated to fit the exact dimensions of the farmhouse.

Modern Durability & Built-In Drainage

While the style is traditional, the engineering underneath is completely modern, low-maintenance, and built to last. We integrated classic ogee-style aluminium gutters directly into the frame to manage heavy rain discreetly, keeping the structure's silhouette clean and uncluttered. On top of that, all the structural steel and aluminium components were treated with a durable powder-coated finish, offering strong rust protection and keeping future maintenance to a minimum.
