Three Mile is a great example of value engineering at work. Long-lasting lower-priced products allow for beautiful high-end statement pieces, giving maximum impact while the whole project stays within budget.

A £7.5m landmark transformation

Three Mile Inn is a much-loved landmark at the heart of Gosforth and has been a place for travellers along the Great North Road to rest and refresh since it was first built in 1938.

Over the years the pub has had many interior incarnations including in the 1970s, a Red Room, a Blue Room & an Alpine Room in the style of a Swiss Chalet. But now Malhotra Group PLC has reimagined the venue as a state of the art hotel, bar and restaurant and the extent of the £7.5m transformation is astounding.

Pizza, pub & more

Three Mile now encompasses the Great North Hotel, with 64 luxury en-suite bedrooms, Pizza Dough Co restaurant & The Great North Bakery & Coffee Co, all on one site.

Taking its influence from American-style pizza restaurants, Pizza Dough Co has an open plan design so customers can watch pizzas being prepared and cooked in traditional stone ovens, with rotating plates, that can reach temperatures of 400˚C.

The Pizza Dough Co has a contemporary American feel, where cosy chestnut shades and mahogany finishes pair with excellent lighting choices and bursts of artificial greenery. Both of these latter themes also proliferate throughout the rest of Three Mile space to great effect.

Exuberant fabrics paired with high-performance faux leather

The Camden Armchair pictured here is sumptuously upholstered; the back and sides flaunt the exuberant botanical velvet Bobo Grove while the seat pad is from Sunbury's Sauvage faux leather range. Sauvage is an extremely hard-wearing, fire retardant, waterproof, and antimicrobial faux leather, making it ideally suited for extreme hospitality use. Throughout Three Mile there are flashes of fanciful fabric choices including Charlton's Zing range mixed with more everyday contract upholstery choices.

Black granite table tops on a variety of bases

Rich, thick granite tops with bullnose edges feature on poseur table bases throughout the venue including in the private dining room, pictured. The height and length of the dark shiny tables create an impressive air of opulence while savings were made in other areas of the specification by reusing some of the customer's existing cast iron table bases paired with new ash tops.

Bespoke banquette seating

This bespoke banquette has a deep button-back and studded details in Sunbury Plush Velvet and Sauvage. It and exudes both comfort and class and is the perfect statement piece which sits pride of place in the decadent room featured top.
