Battersea Power Station, London
The magnificent Grade II-listed Battersea Power Station, with its innovative £9-billion regeneration, is now home to a diverse selection of restaurants, bars and cafes. Megan’s, a Mediterranean-influenced cafe & deli concept, is one of the latest to open and is its fifth site for the restaurant group. Bar and dining furniture from contract furniture supplier Andy Thornton are used throughout this beautiful restaurant, with its magical interior known as one of the ‘most romantic restaurants in London.'
Megan’s always design their restaurants with a garden theme in mind and this one includes a real tree in the centre of the main dining area, adorned with fairy lights. Here Andy Thornton cast iron table bases have been finished in a bespoke antique white and matched with specially made white marble tops. The chairs are our Spin stacking side chairs in a mix of vintage white and vintage blue, with the seats upholstered in a durable, high-quality brown leather.
Further on in the restaurant, a long banquette bench-style seat from Andy Thornton provides substantial seating for a number of diners, upholstered in a rich, practical navy fabric and filled with scattered cushions. The popular Repton button back chairs are upholstered in tasteful grey and blue for a classic look and sit opposite the banquette, teamed with a mix of Andy Thornton table bases and tops used to create an informal, eclectic look. Victorian table bases in cast iron sit alongside modern-style Liberty table bases, while the tops are a blend of rustic oak and solid ash in a distressed finish, specified by the client.
To create intimate dining spaces away from the main dining area, five individual booth seating units were created and installed by Andy Thornton. The seating is upholstered in a practical, hard-wearing navy fabric, to contrast with the white wooden bases, which help create the look of a luxury beach hut. Simple but elegant floor fixed metal legs with fitted timber tops, provide a neat solution in a compact area. The booths are draped with fairy lights, to cocoon and separate each unit and continue the magical atmosphere.
Near the restaurant’s entrance, Paris bar stools in a powder-coated steel are finished to match a traditional blue paint colour and given a bespoke rust patina. The seats are upholstered in durable brown high-quality leather. Pets as well as people are catered for at Megan’s, with stylish dog beds with co-ordinating blue and white bedding providing a resting place for tired pooches.
Andy Thornton best-selling School leather bar stools line the bar near the entrance, the strong black steel frame and vintage-style leather upholstery of the stools contrasting beautifully against the blue and white patterned floor and wall tiles, a colour combination repeated throughout the stylish restaurant.
Said Amy Harris, Megan’s Head of Marketing: “We have used Andy Thornton furniture on a number of recent projects; they always deliver what they promise, no matter how elaborate our design specification.”
