Kilburn, North-West London
The Kiln Theatre is an iconic landmark, sitting proudly on Kilburn High Road, in the heart of Kilburn, north-west London. The striking building started life in 1929 as a meeting hall and was converted to a theatre in 1980 and named The Tricycle, in honour of touring theatre company the Wakefield Tricycle Company.
Following a two-year, £7-million revamp, the building is now future-proofed for the next generations of theatregoers and theatre-makers. The building was transformed inside and out and given the new name of Kiln Theatre to strengthen the theatre’s association with the Kilburn area; a local theatre with international influence.
A vibrant splash of colour is provided by a bespoke Andy Thornton lounge chair in a luxurious rich blue velvet, paired with bespoke tapered pouffs in red and a weathered-looking bespoke leather sofa, to sink into and enjoy a pre- or post-show drink or snack.
The revamped theatre now boasts Kiln Coffee, a café serving delicious breakfasts, healthy lunches and cakes, plus Kiln Bar & Kitchen, a restaurant offering a seasonal menu, beers, cocktails and wines. The theatre chose contract furniture specialists Andy Thornton Ltd to supply the high-quality contract furniture, including several bespoke pieces.
The John Lyon space is a bright, spacious dining area with high ceilings and plenty of natural light. Andy Thornton Naika side chairs are upholstered in a vibrant red fabric, to add a pop of colour to the airy space. These best-selling dining chairs were supplied in a mix of open and slat backs, to break up the look, making it less formal. Our Stylus cast iron dining table bases were given bespoke inlaid tops in a smooth smoky-blue lino, with a hardwood oak edging.
In the stunning foyer of the Kiln, with its newly uncovered original features, we supplied 10 Naika bar stools, upholstered this time in a warm orange, with the frames stained a beautiful smooth walnut. These Naika bar stools also sit around the eye-catching bar, and are teamed with four of our sleek Trio bar stools, again in a matching walnut finish.
The vibrant, eclectic choice of furniture mirrors the buzzing energy of the theatre, a thriving cultural hotspot showing international, world-class and innovative work to the local community.
