Chapter One Restaurant in Locksbottom, Kent, is firmly established as one of the country's top destination restaurants, headed for nearly 20 years by chef and managing partner Andrew McLeish. It provides a first-class dining experience, with an impressive modern European menu and extensive wine list.
Chapter One has recently undergone a complete refurbishment, with interior design by Mandy Sherliker of Sherliker Design, London, who specified the contract dining furniture from Andy Thornton Ltd. The client's design brief was simple - to reinvigorate the existing restaurant and design a new brasserie and outdoor terrace. As the restaurant was previously known as The Fantail, Mandy saw it fitting to draw her inspiration from the colours of a peacock’s tail feathers, particularly the dense greens and navy blues.
For the main restaurant, Andy Thornton supplied over 100 elegant bespoke side chairs, the beech frames stained walnut with brushed brass feet caps, upholstered in a Sekers deep blue polyester velvet. These blend perfectly with the turquoise-painted dado panelling and specially commissioned peacock stained glass screens.
We also supplied and installed a 4-metre curved banquette seating unit in a midnight blue faux leather, with plain seat and fan-stitched quilted back to match the fluted mirrored walls and blue velvet chairs.
Next to the main restaurant, the relaxed and stylish new Chapter One Brasserie offers accessible, informal dining with a simple menu to satisfy any diner. Here Andy Thornton supplied fluted-back banquette seating in a striking petrol-blue faux leather, with Tonda tables and Louvre dining chairs in an emerald velvet.
For the bar, the Andy Thornton metalwork department fabricated a radiused L-shaped decorative ceiling-mounted storage rack for wine and champagne glasses. This was manufactured in 20 mm square solid brass tube, finished in antique brass, with toughened glass shelves.
We also supplied the brass footrail for the bar counter, plus a very ornate and elegant solid brass fretwork screen incorporating the Chapter One logo, which leads into the brasserie dining area.
The first-floor private dining area, which is perfect for wedding receptions, dinner parties and corporate events, has also been refurbished, again with furniture from the Andy Thornton range. Bespoke dining chairs were used again, this time upholstered in a rich earthy velvet from Sunbury, with walnut stained legs and brass feet caps.
The end-result is a stylish modern space, which functions well, has a strong identity and offers a truly distinctive experience.
