University of Reading
The University of Reading enjoys a world-class reputation for teaching, research and enterprise, with over 19,000 students from over 150 countries.
With a wide variety of great places to eat and drink in and around the university, Park Eat is a large, fully licensed and modern food court and bar open to students, staff and members of the public, with three servery counters providing a variety of delicious food and drinks.
Having worked closely with the university on previous projects, we were delighted to secure the substantial order to supply all the new contract furniture for the newly refurbished venue.
Representatives from the University of Reading travelled to the Andy Thornton showrooms to choose the furniture for the project, to see, touch and feel samples and discover the wide range of customised fabrics and finishes we offer. They also explored our bespoke furniture options, opting for customised versions of many of our standard products.
In the cosy Cove area, students gather to eat, socialise and watch Sky TV. Here our hugely versatile Andy Thornton Shoreditch side chairs in Maroon are teamed with bespoke metal table bases in a Workshop Blue finish, with reclaimed scaffold board table tops from our standard product range. Two larger bespoke tables incorporate useful inbuilt power sockets with USB ports.
The tables are teamed with matching bespoke benches, durable and stylish, with the metal frame again finished in Workshop Blue, to provide plenty of seating.
The busy bar area, which serves hot drinks and an excellent selection of home-cooked food, features Andy Thornton Stamford dining tables with matching benches and 73 of our top-selling School side chairs in leather, creating flexible seating options.
An attractive feature of the building's frontage is the huge, curved wall of floor-to-ceiling windows, creating a light and airy social space. Here, Andy Thornton School bar stools in vintage leather are matched with bespoke poseur tables with reclaimed scaffold tops, creating a comfortable spot to watch the vibrant, bustling world of the university go by.
