Bradford, West Yorkshire
The iconic St George's Hall, Bradford, has recently re-opened to much fanfare, following a transformational restoration, funded by Bradford Council and the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Contract furniture for the refurbished venue, including for the main entrance, the café, three bars and an event space, has been supplied by leading local supplier Andy Thornton Ltd.
St George's Hall is a Grade II*-listed Victorian venue built in 1853, located in the centre of Bradford, West Yorkshire. It is one of the oldest concert halls still in use in the United Kingdom and Europe.
As well as major works to the roof, windows, electrics and stonework, the front-of-house areas have been enlarged and refurbished to complement the ambience of this historic venue. As you enter the impressive main entrance with its mirrored ceiling and original mosaic floor, you are greeted by a luxurious lounge area.
Andy Thornton supplied three-seater bespoke sofas, upholstered in a mix of vibrant orange upholstery and plain-coloured velvets. Between two columns sits a large table with copper laminate top and six upholstered Soho armchairs, whilst in a snug area there are citrus floral lounge chairs, a coffee table and a large bespoke sofa.
St George's Hall Café, located just behind the front-of-house area, is open daily from Monday to Saturday and prior to shows. In the relaxed stylish surroundings, which celebrate the venue’s rich heritage, Andy Thornton Harley side chairs have been used throughout, upholstered in a geometric Taupe fabric with Wenge-coloured vinyl seat, alongside cast iron tables with laminate tops in a concrete-textured finish.
For the first-floor gallery, which is an event space used for meetings and small exhibitions, Andy Thornton supplied more Harley side chairs, with Inox bases and square laminate tops.
