Morrisons Supermarket, Fleet, Hampshire
Wm Morrisons supermarket in Fleet, Hampshire, is the latest new-look store to receive a total makeover of its in-store café, using contract dining furniture and fixed seating from Andy Thornton. A key element of the interior specification, which has a distinctive industrial feel, is the substantial use of reclaimed materials used throughout the café, with Andy Thornton installing the full furnishings package.
The impressive first-floor café features extensive views over the landscaped car park and the huge floor-to-ceiling windows allow light to flood in during the day. Fronting the windows Andy Thornton supplied 30 tables, each with ski-leg steel bases and solid rectangular tops, made from reclaimed scaffold boards. The tables, seating four diners, are paired with their popular leather School side chairs.
Centrepiece is a huge 4.8 metre long family table, which seats at least 16 diners. It features a solid timber top with semi-circular ends, manufactured from reclaimed scaffold-boards, on sturdy steel section legs and centre support, finished in a gunmetal finish and again paired with leather School chairs.
A very popular feature is the cluster of eight seating booths, potentially seating 48 diners, which fill a substantial area adjacent to the service counters. The substantial timber frames are manufactured using reclaimed pine. The simple seating units are upholstered in dark brown high-performance soft faux leather with natural grain. The rectangular table tops are again in reclaimed scaffold boards.
Facing the booths and again in reclaimed pine is an 11-metre-long run of banquette seating, with tables and more leather School chairs, which seats up to 30 diners. To the side of the banquette, Andy Thornton also installed a children’s play pen, a simple but very effective enclosure, formed using the same reclaimed solid pine cladding.
