Old Gate Bar & Restaurant
FRESH NEW LOOK
One of the iconic landmarks of the vibrant, quirky market town of Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, is the Old Gate, a handsome old stone bar and restaurant in the heart of the town. The busy bar downstairs serves up fine beers and wines, where the upstairs provides a more formal seating area for a restaurant, with sweeping views over the town. Owner Richard Stenson felt it was time to update the restaurant’s interior décor, to bring it up-to-date with a fresh look, with contract furniture by Andy Thornton.
CONTRACT FURNITURE SPECIALISTS
All the existing contract furniture in the Old Gate was supplied by Andy Thornton, so when it was time to start the refurbishment, the owners didn’t hesitate to visit the Andy Thornton showroom for ideas and advice.
VIBRANT CHOICE OF UPHOLSTERY
A combination of our classic Sappho and Dixie fully upholstered armchairs is used throughout the restaurant. Dixie armchairs were specified in a deep, inky velvet, while Sappho armchairs create a bright splash in bold fuchsia.
NINA BAR STOOLS
When it came to choosing a contrasting upholstery for more Sappho chairs and our substantial Nina bar stools, we encouraged the client to play around with different colours and patterns until we helped them choose a bespoke fabric with a dramatic tropical floral print, in vibrant colours.
Bespoke cast iron table bases are teamed with specially made white marble tops, again from Andy Thornton, to provide elegant and durable restaurant tables.
USE OF LOCAL SUPPLIERS
The use of local and seasonal produce is a theme that runs through the Old Gate menu and Richard has successfully incorporated this in the renovation of the building, sourcing the curtain and upholstery fabric from local suppliers and using independent stores wherever possible.
FLORENCE CEILING PENDANTS
Our Florence ceiling pendants are the finishing touch to the newly refurbished restaurant, along with a selection of our teak No Wood outdoor furniture, which gives a new look to the large outdoor courtyard area at the front of the building.
Business in the new restaurant so far is booming and the feedback from customers has been extremely positive.
