We supplied bespoke pieces including seating, a reception counter and two stunning pendant lights, along with furniture from our standard collections, for the refurbishment of this buzzing central London hotel.

MAJOR INTERIOR REFURBISHMENT

The final phase of a major interior refurbishment of the Novotel London City South Hotel, close to The Shard and Tate Modern, has been completed recently with the re-opening of the public areas, including the new Gourmet Bar & Restaurant. We supplied special bespoke furniture to the project, specified by design studio Takagicapéran.

The Gourmet Bar & Kitchen marks a new approach for the public areas for the Novotel brand: an optimised food and beverage offer, staged around an iconic central bar, guiding customers throughout the open public areas. Personal, flexible and welcoming, the design aims to create a destination venue for hotel guests and locals alike that encourages relaxation, whether meeting for work, socialising with friends and colleagues, eating, drinking, or both.

BESPOKE RECEPTION COUNTER

The upbeat, premium casual environment with its buzzing atmosphere has been carefully zoned by the clever use of bespoke screens and unique pieces of furniture. The hotel reception counter was visualised by the designer in the style of a draughtsman’s plan drawer, which our talented craftsmen created in hardwood and topped in solid marble.

CUSTOM-MADE TABLES & COUNTERS

We supplied a number of other bespoke tables and counters, including two A-frame high tables 3.5 metres and 3 metres long respectively, with chunky 75 mm end-grain butcher block tops. With a central bank of desk lighting and incorporating USB charging points they are ideal for hot-desking, having been positioned in quiet areas of the lounge. They include Andy Thornton Doll bar stools, specially reduced in height to suit the tables.

ORIGINAL SIDEBOARD

A bespoke, steel-framed industrial-style counter/cupboard with rivet detail to the frame and four mesh doors all painted in a patina finish with wood top, creates a natural partition between the bar and lounge areas. We also manufactured a large haberdashery counter in hardwood and toughened glass with multiple graduated drawers, as well as sourcing an original 1950s teak sideboard specially for the project.

BESPOKE HOTEL SOFAS

For the lounge, we manufactured a number of bespoke seating units, including a large L-shaped sofa 2.3 metres x 2.3 metres, upholstered in a modern blue chenille, together with a brass-framed glass-topped coffee table and lounge chair. We also supplied a number of specially upholstered sofas, lounge chairs matched with steel-framed coffee tables.

TABLE BASES & TOPS

In the large light-filled conservatory area, we supplied all the tables, featuring 1000 mm diameter solid marble tops on our table bases, finished in white.

BESPOKE FEATURE LIGHTING PENDANTS

Finally, our in-house metalwork department was commissioned to manufacture two large bespoke blackened steel feature pendants for the hotel’s reception and lounge area. These simple but elegant ceiling-hung light fixtures are an impressive 2.4 metres in diameter and each feature 22 lights with LED lamps.

The Gourmet Bar & Kitchen is now the focal point of all guest activity on the ground floor of the hotel and has quickly become the connected social hub within the native community.
