I have used Andy Thornton to design and supply decorative metalwork structures since 2007. It is a thoroughly professional company whose attention to detail during the design and construction phases is second to none. This is backed up with a most friendly and efficient service ethos. I have been delighted with the quality of the work and my experience with Andy Thornton has been fantastic from start to finish, I wouldn’t hesitate to use them for any future projects. Over the last 10 years we have worked alongside Peter Howard, the owner of Marston Trussell Hall, to provide various architectural metalwork structures, during an extended process of restoration and development to the property. It was very important that these structures complemented the attractive Grade II listed building, whilst standing as architectural features in their own right.

In 2007 when the formal gardens were created, we were invited to design and install a small pavilion to be sited at the end of the long central garden canal feature. This combined columns, spandrels and a rear screen powder-coated in a Verdigris finish. A concave aluminium sheet roof with decorative finials was powder coated in dark grey, to replicate an oxidised lead roof.

At the same time, we supplied a lean-to pavilion, which is attached to the side of the house. This comprises decorative columns, spandrels below a glazed roof in 6 mm toughened safety glass, retained in our two-part patent-glazing system. This is finished in durable gloss green polyester powder coat.

Plans for a new orangery were passed in 2014 and Andy Thornton Ltd was invited to supply the structural steel support frame, which was then clad in brick and stone. We then installed four very ornate steel trusses, each incorporating a decorative cast aluminium circular panel, which were lifted into place with the help of a spider crane.

The final project was the addition of a 7.3-metre veranda, in front of the extensive glazed screen of the orangery. This simple but elegant structure combines four plain columns below ogee profile guttering with faux lead aluminium sheet roof panels.
