SWEEPING MARBLE STAIRCASE

SWEEPING MARBLE STAIRCASE

Intu Trafford Centre, near Manchester, is the third-largest indoor shopping centre and leisure complex in the UK and opened in 1998. The Great Hall, with its quirky Rococo/late Baroque architectural style, was added in 2007. It is a glazed structure, which houses numerous restaurants and cafes.

The hall features a sweeping marble staircase, below what is claimed by the centre to be the largest chandelier in the world. We supplied two bespoke handrails that run down the centre of the staircase. These are in solid polished brass with reeded black painted posts. We also supplied two curved side hand rails in solid brass, which follow the curved marble balustrades to both sides.

Andy Thornton Ltd was commissioned to manufacture various other decorative staircase and balustrade features. In other areas of the centre, we supplied solid brass tube stair handrails with decorative posts in reeded tube, painted matt black.

We also supplied protective balustrading around escalators. The brass handrails, with black painted posts, this time incorporate laminated glass panels, which each feature an etched floral border around a Lancashire rose motif.
