Wakefield, West Yorkshire
Andy Thornton supplied a 28-metre-long glazed walkway that follows the extensive frontage of the luxurious new spa facilities at Waterton Park Hotel & Spa, near Wakefield. This 4 star hotel, set in a scenic setting of rolling parkland, includes its very own lake, ancient woodland and a championship golf course.
Working closely with contractor GB Windows and to drawings supplied by architects MR Hart & Associates, the design was based on our popular circle colonnade system. The eye-catching detail is provided by a decorative frieze running the length of the structure. Each end of the walkway has 90 degree radiused corners that follow the curvature of the building.
The canopy is supported by ten structural steel columns featuring ornate cast aluminium bases and circle spandrels. The roof is glazed in 10mm thick toughened safety glass, retained in our two-part patent glazing system as well as including an OG profile gutter in extruded aluminium.
The complete structure was manufactured in our Architectural Metalwork workshops in Elland, then finished in a hard-wearing satin black polyester powder coat before being delivered to the hotel in kit-form, where we carefully supervised installation by the site fixing team.
