The Bloomsbury Hotel in London underwent an extensive renovation programme during 2017 and now features an impressive new glazed entrance canopy, manufactured and installed by Andy Thornton Ltd, to designs by architects Donald Insall Associates. The boutique hotel, with 153 guest rooms, is a Doyle Collection property housed within a Grade II listed building, in the literary heartland of Great Russell Street, close to Covent Garden.
The hotel’s original entrance on the side of the property has been fully restored and the new canopy leads straight into the fully-refurbished main reception area. It complements perfectly the existing decorative glazed metal verandas on both sides.
At 9.5 metres in length, the structure was manufactured in steel section and comprises tapered support columns, three-sided gutter assembly and a radiused roof incorporating 8mm-thick opaque polycarbonate infill panels, secured within a steel boss assembly. It was finished in a durable polyester powder coat finish, in gloss black.
The canopy really comes to life at night with the external LED lighting providing stunning illumination for the large entranceway. The unobtrusive strip lighting has been cleverly recessed in steel channel, complete with diffuser.
The entrance canopy was installed by our installation team in just one week, with the hotel remaining fully operational throughout.
Commented Daniel Healey, the hotel’s Deputy General Manager: “Andy Thornton has produced an architecturally stunning canopy for The Bloomsbury, providing exemplary service and expertise throughout.”
