The Oval Bandstand

Margate

Classical bandstand

This classical bandstand is situated at the popular Oval Gardens, off the Queen's Promenade at Cliftonville, near Margate, Kent.

Commissioned by the Regeneration Department of Thanet District Council, the 6-metre-diameter structure closely replicates the original Victorian bandstand that had long since been left in a state of neglect.

We were able to design the bandstand around standard components from our vast range of architectural castings. These included cast aluminium columns, brackets and frieze panels, to decorate the structural steel skeleton.

Elegant roof structure

Elegant roof structure

The elegant roof structure is clad in aluminium sheet, which was carefully finished to resemble a traditional lead roof. Its centrepiece is an attractive weather vane.

The whole structure was protected from the elements with a powder-coated paint finish to the galvanised steelwork, to a coastal specification.

The bandstand has proved a popular addition to the promenade and, since its completion in the summer, has provided the focal point for a number of memorable events.
