James' Places

In-house design

The opulent industrial interior is complemented by the beautiful decorative tin ceiling.

The 1823 Bar & Grill is a modern British seafood and steak restaurant serving memorable food and drinks in a truly remarkable setting. Occupying the original spinning block, in Holmes Mill, Clitheroe, the Bar & Grill is a spectacular addition to the James’ Places collection of Ribble Valley hotels, bars and restaurants.

In keeping with the rest of the mill development, the 1823 Bar & Grill has been stylishly and imaginatively designed whilst remaining sympathetic to the buildings rich heritage. Its interior décor is described as ‘opulent industrial’ and has a distinctive art nouveau style.

The impressive decorative ceiling, using metal tiles supplied by Andy Thornton, is worthy of a visit just on its own! Almost 1,000 of our popular Egg & Dart design tiles have been used between the original rustic pitch pine beams to create a stunning panelled effect throughout the whole bar and restaurant areas.

The tiles have been carefully hand-finished by the client, using stains and lacquers to give a unique antique bronze finish, before being installed by their building contractor. The tiled ceiling is a perfect backdrop for the multitude of glass art nouveau pendants, whilst complementing the stone walls, cast iron support columns and parquet and concrete floors.
