17th century coffer

17th century Jacobean oak panelled coffer with name inscription and dated 1685, originally from Halifax Minster. The chest lid appears to have been re-hinged at a later date so the ornate strap hinges are now just for decoration; the front lock plate has also been replaced in more recent times. There is some damage to the wood commensurate with its age, with splinting on a couple of panels and a piece broken off the front of the lid, but this in no way detracts from this historic, solid piece of furniture.
