ELECTROPLATE FINISHES

Andy Thornton electroplating is of the first quality. Our chrome plate is to BS1224: 1970 Table 4 Service condition 2: "Nickel and chrome on copper alloy". Nickel base is of minimum thickness 20 microns. Chromium is extremely hard; other finishes, based on softer metals, are protected by a coating of tough electro-phoretic lacquer (electrolac). Any of our brass items can be plated to achieve the finishes shown below, but care should be exercised when specifying a plated finish for high wear components such as footrails. Often stainless steel can be used instead of plated brass. It is best to protect the cut end of a plated tube within a sleeve type fitting. If this is not possible, as for flush fittings, then order tube cut to length so that the plating is unbreached. Maximum plated tube length 1.5m
