Plough & Flail

The Architectural Metalwork department at Andy Thornton Ltd manufactured and installed this striking canopy at the Plough & Flail Restaurant in Mobberley, Cheshire.

Owners, Deckers Restaurant Group, wanted to adapt the venue’s existing outdoor space to accommodate the increase in demand for alfresco dining in the summer months but also with the consideration of the proposed smoking ban in mind. Working to initial drawings supplied by Deckers’ in-house designer Sam Moss, Thornton's were able to develop the design to achieve an aesthetical, economical and highly practical scheme.

The distinctive canopy was manufactured on an impressive scale to cover an area of 60 square metres in total. Thornton’s standard Seaton columns and a Circle Colonnade system were combined to create the impressive structure, which was then finished in a subtle blue/grey colour to blend in perfectly with the building and surrounding gardens.

Andy Thornton’s metalwork division manufacture major architectural structures and building elements including bandstands and gazebos, smoking shelters, canopies, balustrades and staircases. To download our Architectural Metalwork brochure, please visit our downloads page.
