Copthorne Hotel Sheffield

The latest interior fit-out project completed by the contracts division of Andy Thornton Ltd is the Copthorne Hotel Sheffield. The company was responsible for manufacturing and installing the bespoke joinery in the public areas of this new-build 4-star hotel.

Located next to Sheffield United Football Club’s Bramall Lane stadium, the 158 room Copthorne Hotel Sheffield brings the latest facilities and services to the heart of the city. The hotel has access to the stadium’s extensive meetings and events facilities and is ideal for business and leisure customers as well as those wishing to turn an event at Sheffield United FC into an overnight stay.

The interior designers, Design Buro of Leamington Spa invited Andy Thornton to tender for extensive joinery works to the main restaurant, bar bistro, lounge bar and reception areas. The contract was awarded and a challenging 10 week programme agreed, which included the complete manufacture in Thornton’s workshops and site installation.

In the bar bistro, Andy Thornton installed a contemporary walnut bar with brightly lit obscured glass panels and a back fitting complete with glass sliding doors and stunning LED lighting.

Eye-catching bespoke gondola seat units were also manufactured and strategically placed in the lounge and bar areas. These are semi-circular in design with curved walnut framework rising from the seat unit to create a unique design and impressive focal point.

Perhaps the most remarkable feature in the hotel is the sweeping walnut clad wall in the reception area which runs out of the floor, curves up the wall and onto the ceiling spectacularly. The specialist joinery team at Andy Thornton designed and manufactured this with intricate copper inlays and subtle lighting to dramatic effect. Three reception desks and a concierge desk were manufactured for the same area.

Andy Thornton was also presented with the challenging task of dividing each room in keeping with the design and décor. The end result is an outstanding giant wall light box which provides perfect atmospheric lighting.
