On a recent trip to Florence our buyer was so impressed with the Giambolonga mannerist sculpture 'Rape of the Sabine women' (1582) displayed at the front of the Loggia dei Lanzi in the Piazza della Signoria that he immediately commissioned a scaled version of the piece in marble. It depicts the legendary foundation of Rome by the attack on its near neighbours the Sabines.
