This all aluminium newel post is strong and versatile.
It is hollow so that with the finial removed, access is possible to nuts or tapped plates for the attachment of handrails etc.
The fixing plate has 12mm holes for M10 fixing bolts. These are hidden by a cover which locks onto the base plate.
