How do I maintain brass and chrome products?
Polished brass or copper work should be polished daily using a proprietary metal polish eg. Brasso, to prevent tarnishing.
Polished metalwork with a lacquer finish eg light fittings, should be cleaned occasionally with a mild detergent. On no account should a metal polish be used, as this will destroy the lacquer finish.
Internal painted metalwork should be washed periodically with a mild detergent.
External painted metalwork should be washed very thoroughly or pressure washed at least once a year.
Chrome and satin chrome should be wiped with a damp cloth and use a good quality wax polish. Never use abrasive cleaning agents. Excessive cleaning will eventually reveal the metal core.
Special finishes - Bronze, verdigris, etc should be wiped with a damp cloth and a good quality wax polish should be used.
