Le Royal Jordan
Location: Amman
Client: General Mediterranean Jordan
Designer: Hasbani & Associates
Architect: Martinet Architecture
At 11 metres in diameter and over 4 metres in height this is by far the largest stained glass structure ever produced by Andy Thornton Ltd. The stained glass dome inspired by religious architecture is now the centrepiece in the atrium of the new Royal Jordan Hotel in Amman.
The initial design, submitted by the client, was based on architectural forms from old temples and interpreted into stained glass designs by our glass artists. The dome, which took four months to manufacture, incorporates over 15,000 individual pieces of Belgian cathedral glass, with the manufactured panels dropped into a mild steel frame.
The £75k contract was the largest stained glass commission ever undertaken by the company.
