The Savoy
Location: London
Designer: Pierre-Yves Rochon
Architect: ReardonSmith Architects
Main Contractor: Chorus Group
A huge stained glass dome, manufactured and installed by Andy Thornton, has become one of the most talked about features of the recently re-opened iconic London hotel The Savoy.
The hotel opened its doors again following a record breaking three-year £220million refurbishment with interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon capturing the glamour and spirit of the hotel’s original Edwardian and Art Deco influences.
In the heart of the building is the magnificent new 7.5 metre glass concave dome supplied by Andy Thornton. Set amongst The Savoy's many extravagant features, the stained glass structure floods the Thames Foyer with natural light. Not only is the dome a beautiful work of art, it is also in keeping with the restoration of the hotel having been copied from a drawing of an original dome found in the hotel's archives.
We also fabricated and installed a winter garden gazebo complete with decorative columns and intricate arched filigree panels and open roof that houses a grand piano and sits underneath the dome.
