Le Bouchon
Location: Oslo
Client: Odexer AS
Designer: Andy Thornton Ltd
Reminiscent of a 1930s Parisian brasserie, Le Bouchon oozes low-key glamour and grandeur with its use of oak, muted colours and light.
The French-style bistro was designed and fitted-out by Andy Thornton in just seven weeks, following a meeting between our interior design team and Odexer AS, who visited our showrooms and workshops at the beginning of March.
Le Bouchon’s unusual triangular wedge shape created extra challenges that were overcome by positioning seating, tables and the bar along the walls, all fanning out from the bespoke entrance doors, which are at the narrowest point of the building.
We designed and manufactured all the bistro’s high and low fixed seating made from lightly distressed European oak with red leather upholstery; panelled bar counter with an inlaid brass top, timber nosing and carvings; mirrored back bar fittings with illuminated side panels; and entrance doors, which have a black gloss paint finish, decorative etched glass panels and triple brass push bars.
The loose tables and Bistro bentwood side chairs and bar stools, which were also upholstered in red leather, flatter the fixed furnishings beautifully. The look is completed by the decorative pendants, which feature opal light shades that were also supplied by Andy Thornton.
The curved bar with its brass counter top was specified by the client who wanted something different and in keeping with the brasserie theme. Other simple touches, such as the brass foot rail on the bar and brass lighting and door hardware subtly compliment the feature.
Throughout the day Le Bouchon is bright and airy with natural light flooding through its many large windows and reflecting off the brass bar top. At night the bar comes alive with the yellow illuminated back bar working with the metalwork to give off an inviting, golden glow.
