The Rubens at the Palace

Location: London
Client: Red Carnation Hotels
Architect: LCE Architects

The design brief for this project was to replace the existing 1960’s structure with an entrance canopy more befitting of the period of the building and its fine facade.

The elliptical shaped canopy was manufactured in mild steel and aluminium, featuring laminated glass panels dropped into a convex metal frame, with a decorative crown and laser-cut gold-leafed name lettering. The structure was finished with a weather-resistant epoxy powder-coat.

The complete structure was fabricated in our workshops before being dismantled and transported to site for installation. The cantilevered canopy was secured to a concealed beam and hung from two wall-mounted tension rods.

The result is an entrance which finally matches the hotel’s heritage and location, being situated in the heart of London, just a short walk from Westminster Abbey.
