17.11.2011 - Andy Thornton furnish new JD Wetherspoon
The latest JD Wetherspoon pub to open in the North of England is The Tilley Stone in Jackson Street, Gateshead. Located on the main high street and occupying a former Co-operative Industrial Society building, the chosen name has close links to past coal mining in the area.
The interior designer on the project was Harrison Ince Architects, who specified the majority of the loose furniture for the pub from Andy Thornton.
For the main bar area, they commissioned four bespoke industrial-looking poseur tables made from H-section structural steel that we fabricated in our metal workshops. We added substantial wooden tops with side-profile steel bolts and supplied weathered bentwood bar stools to complete the ‘vintage workshop’ feel. These high tables are used during the day for eating bar snacks but have been fitted with castors so they can be easily moved away from the bar in the evenings when not required.

In the main dining areas, we supplied an eclectic mix of both traditional and modern restaurant and lounge furniture, including side chairs, tub chairs and sofas all upholstered in a selection of fabrics and leathers specified by Harrison Ince. We also provided over 50 timber tables throughout the pub, which feature tapered legs and square tops all in solid polished beech.

We worked with Harrison Ince Architects earlier this year when we supplied an eclectic range of lighting to the JD Wetherspoon pub The Cooper Rose in Sunderland.
