Care and maintenance

Chairs and tables

Clean by wiping with a damp cloth (a mild cleaning liquid may be used) then buff using a dry duster. Proprietary spray polishes should be used infrequently, otherwise a build up can develop, especially on arms and backs. A proprietary cleaner should be used to remove residue. Nuts and bolts on chairs and tables need checking for tightness at regular intervals.

Fabrics

Lightly vacuum upholstery once a week, dust removal may be improved by pre-brushing with a soft brush. Cleaning should be done by a reputable cleaning company and to the manufacturer's recommendations. Regularly turn and interchange the positions of reversible cushions. Avoid exposing upholstered furniture to direct sunlight for long periods of time, as this may result in fading or degradation of the fabric.

Leather upholstery

Requires cleaning with a slightly damp cloth on a regular basis to remove dust and grime. Chemical cleaners should never be used. Any further treatment should only be done with products suitable for leather.

Wooden table tops

Clean by wiping with a damp cloth (a mild cleaning liquid may be used) then buff using a dry duster. Although the tops are heat resistant, avoid putting hot objects directly onto the tops - ceramic crockery may scratch the surface. Place mats are recommended.

Marble and granite table tops

Acidic foods and drinks (wine, citrus juices, coke and vinegar, etc), which will etch into the surface, and strongly coloured drinks (blackcurrant juice, red wine, etc), need to be wiped clean immediately, otherwise marking will occur. Some ceramic crockery may scratch the surface. The use of place mats is recommended. The marble from which the table tops are cut was formed millions of years ago and the visible veins are natural mineral deposits. There may be some fine fissures and pinhole markings which are a natural feature of marble.
